Fashion

"Paper and plastic clothing will probably be popular in the future, and some fashion people foresee the day when men and women will wear 'jump suits' for everyday" - Marilyn Day (1969)

A Tetrahedron Vision from Destination Geodecity

The Geodecian look was first visioned as being a one-piece jump suit as shown in the original concept image (above). But by the time Destination: Geodecity was being prepared however, a tabard design was preferred and so it was this vision that was realised and distributed to the Geo-pioneers. The tabards were simpler and easier to produce in large numbers, forming a covering for Geo-pioneers old world clothes or bodies, yet making them visible on Geodecities terms by clearly showing their name and colour group. This basic garment has the potential to be developed in a varity of directions in the future, with the jump suit still a strong future possibility.

Tabards

Each Geo Pioneer chooses a colour group once they join The Geodedity Project and before entering Geodecity. This determins the colour of their tabards. At Destination: Geodecity the tabards varied in material between these colour groups with the pink and yellow tabards benefitting from being made from a cool cotton material, whilst the green and blue tabards were of a more nylon nature and thus struggled in the blistering August heat. In future this problem will need to be addressed in order that Geodecian fashion is appropriate to the way of life, and the glorious days of sunshine that will inevitibly await us in the bright future we are creating. Since Destination: Geodecity all new tabbards that have been issued have beed made from 100% cotton.

Hats

Some Geodecians were wise enough to bring hats with them to Destination: Geodecity, however many did not, which lead to the suggestion that Geodeicans will need hats as well as tabards to survive the Geodecian way of life. This head wear may be designed around mini geodesic domes, to be worn over the head at all the times, perhaps slightly helmet like in appearence but much lighter weight. The exact design of Geodecian headwear will need to be developed prior to

Geodecity V.2

Belts

The simple strips of fabric used as ties for the tabards are a current weakness it the design as the easily come undone and do not pull the tabard in a desirable way. More substantial belts are needed, a wider stiffer fabric might work better for a waistband with a utility belt on top of that so Geodecians can carry items they need frequently on their person.

Patches

It has been discussed and some interest has been shown in the idea of awarding custom made, triangular, fabric, patches to each of those Geodecains that attend a Geodecity project event, meeting, outpost, expo, etc. Perhaps this would use the simplified imagery of the Musicological Dome panel that is also produced after each gathering. These could then be sewn on to the tabbard and may act as a status symbol to the dedication of Geodecians and may inspire others to become more involved in future gatherings.

Evolution

Altering and improving clothing as an integral Geodecian activity was first introduced by Sailor Huxley at Destination: Geodecity. Whilst having some tabard trouble (fraying and riding up at the back) she confided in Smelly Weena who expressed that he did not think the clothing was very utopian. Undeterred by this negativity Sailor expressed her vision by commenting, "Its ok we can hem them later around the bonfire".

Since then, as part of on going developments between each meeting, each Geodecian is expected to develop their tabard in some way. This customisation is to outwardly express their personality or values and to inspire others in new ways of thinking with respect to Geodecian fashion. These new additions are then revealed during each tabard transition. It is hoped that these small changes will over time transform the look of the community whilst improving the practicalities of the clothing.

Colour Coded Clothing

Pioneered by Buck Eliphas many Geodecians now choose to only wear clothing of their colour. In order to provide Geodecians with a steady supply of pink, yellow, green or blue clothing it has been suggested that Geodecians begin a door-to-door collection scheme and redistribute to Geodecians in the correct colour group.
